The other day at work our internet service was down for about 3 hours. It surprised me that the reactions that my co-workers had was as if the world was going to end because they're expecting e-mail or they're not able to send out e-mail!!! Uh....remember the telephone??? Oh yeah, and don't forget old-fashioned fax machines!!!
It was amusing to me, but I then realized that something that we didn't have 20 years ago in the workplace is now such an essential function at work. If the internet is down, you almost feel like you cannot function! Well, I ended up using that 3 hours to catch up on my filing and organizing my personal workspace. I thought that was something productive.
Can you imagine if all telephone and cellphone lines were out of service???
