What did you say???

Recently, I was in line at Wal-Mart when I couldn't help but notice the people in front of me. There was a child, a little girl, probably 6 or 7 years old, crying her little heart out. I wasn't sure why, but I wasn't about to ask either. Her mother, probably in her late 20's, started to speak to her in Spanish. I had no idea what she told her, but from her body language it was probably along the lines of: Will you please stop crying! Well, that was my interpretation at least.

I'm still in line. I don't know if it was the crying or the cashier we had was taking too long, but it seemed like I was in line forever. What was astounding about it all was that this child was still crying like there was no tomorrow! Don't get me wrong. I wasn't irritated at all. I felt more sorry for her because she looked so cute in her pigtails, but she was so super sad and there was nothing I could do about it. Evidently, neither could her mom. Unfortunately, this little girl's mama's patience was almost on empty. She was beyond irritated. I could tell because she was trying to pull her own hair out of her head as she said, "Oh my god, will you please just shut up?! Shut up! SHUT UP!!!" Uh...........WHOA!!! I couldn't believe she just said that! That's something I will NEVER do to my child. And do you think it worked? Nope. That child was still crying.

What would you have done?

I don't take little ones shopping because I feel they shouldn't be subjected to long hours of activity that doesn't interest them. You're only asking for trouble or setting yourself up for tantrums when that happens. If I can't help it and I have to take the kids, I set up ground rules so everyone understands what they can and can't ask for, behavior I expect and then I try to get in and get out as soon as possible. I don't know why that mother was yelling at her kid when she's the adult in the situation. Sad, just sad.

Wow! That's crazy. I always take my girls with me hehe. They dont cry when we go to the stores, unless they are really tired, in that case, I have them stay home with Chris, or I go shopping another time...But, I would not have yelled like that, even though I know how it feels to have a child cry so much. Taliyah does not cry in public, she keeps it at the house, which is good but she barely cries anyway, only if she like wants to play the DS and we say not today. lol...But Ranasia, she throws her fits ALOT, but then I sit with her for a minute or two and talk to her, and then she is fine, but she does have her moments...Like this past TOM, she wanted to follow me but I was working and she would cry everytime my mom tried to take her, so my mom had to just carry her and walke away, I swear, Polly, I heard her cry from FAR! lol...but anyway, this mother you saw must have just been over frustrated...thats bad...I wonder, did people turn around and look at her?

It is such a sad case. Oh and you better believe everyone there was looking at her...and the child.
