P.S. I cried my heart out!

Last Sunday after a wonderful Father's Day lunch, I lounged with Floyd and watched a couple of DVD's at home. One of the movies we rented was P.S. I Love You starring Hillary Swank. It was such a nice, sweet beautiful story, but I was crying my eyes out 75% of the time!

Could you imagine receiving letters from your spouse after they've died??? I joked with Floyd and asked him not to do that to me because I'd be in an emotional wreck. He said, "I'll only do it for 2 years!" Matai yu!

technology & its impact on our lives

The other day at work our internet service was down for about 3 hours. It surprised me that the reactions that my co-workers had was as if the world was going to end because they're expecting e-mail or they're not able to send out e-mail!!! Uh....remember the telephone??? Oh yeah, and don't forget old-fashioned fax machines!!!

It was amusing to me, but I then realized that something that we didn't have 20 years ago in the workplace is now such an essential function at work. If the internet is down, you almost feel like you cannot function! Well, I ended up using that 3 hours to catch up on my filing and organizing my personal workspace. I thought that was something productive.

Can you imagine if all telephone and cellphone lines were out of service???

The Gift of Life

The gift of life.
So precious, so pure.
Innocence born into a world filled with so much emotion!

The gift of life.
It is a miracle!
Such a gift is taken for granted by many!

The gift of life.
Oh how I pray for such a gift!
Why should I be spared from such a miracle?
My life is incomplete.

graduations

Graduations. Boy, we had a lot of them in my family this year! WOW! The kids that have graduated in my family have obviously grown up!

Sitting through those graduations, I felt an overwhelming feeling of happiness. Happy to see that many of them reached that goal. Happy to know they had that feeling of accomplishment inside them by the look in their eyes. Happy! Happy! Happy!

I then came to the realization that these graduates have so much more ahead of them. The graduates from elementary school means they're going into middle school. The graduates from middle school means they're going to high school. And the graduates from high school means they're going to college.

Everyone has so much ahead of them. How time flies, huh???

give me a reason...

This is MY point of view....

REASONS TO STAY:
1. family
2. friends
3. family gatherings
4. nice, warm weather (with the exception of typhoon season...)
5. the beach!!!
6. the beautiful sunsets
7. the drive on beach road
8. no long-distance driving
9. traffic (there's only traffic if one lane is closed or there's an accident)
10. my job, my career

REASONS TO LEAVE:
1. bad economy
2. CUC rates (so random)
3. low minimum wage (we just hit $4.05 on May 26th!)
4. high cost of living on Saipan (gas, groceries, electricity, tuition, and the list goes on...)
5. seasonal typhoons
6. politics!!!
7. a need for a change in my career

Family Time

Someone once told me that I was so lucky to be part of a family that was so close-knit. It didn't occur to me at that very moment, but the more I thought about it, it was true and I was pretty lucky! I've had some friends tell me that they don't socialize with their 1st cousins because they don't really know them at all. I thought that was pretty strange - maybe because I came from a family that met constantly, if not always! And when I say constantly, I mean meeting my family more than on those special holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.

Growing up, we always spent Sundays at grandma & grandpa's house. It was something that I looked forward to during the week because it was the day of the week that I would see my cousins, aunts, uncles and more importantly, a day to see my grandparents. Through the years, I've seen my family grow. Grandma and grandpa are now gone and the "little kids" aren't so much the little kids anymore because they're all graduating from high school! Most of my 1st cousins are grown up and have gone their separate ways by moving off-island, having children of their own or got married. I remember when I started to see the transition, it frightened me. I had this fear that once we all reached adulthood, we wouldn't have those "Sunday gatherings" like we did before. Can you imagine being out of touch with everyone? I absolutely cannot conceive the idea at all! But it's happening and today I realized at today's Memorial Day family gathering, that the crowd is getting smaller.

I've heard complaints from members of my family that we meet too much because all the gatherings are more than once a week. But I think I've figured out exactly why they all meet - it's because they're all getting older so they treasure the moments they have with each other. Let me be the first to admit that I am not at all of these "gatherings", but I can say one thing: I am lucky to be part of a family that is close-knit. If I were to move off-island tomorrow, I know that I would definitely miss all the family gatherings we have. It's a time when I actually socialize with my family and that's something you can't put a price on.

My first blog...and why I'm here

WOW! This is definitely something new for me! I've read blogs, but never actually had one of my own so I'm quite excited, yet nervous. I guess I decided to take the plunge when I was reading many other blogs about their world, what was important to them and also just reading what I thought was a venting session more or less. It really made me feel like I was not alone in this world!

You know, since I was given my very own DIARY as a child, I've learned to release a lot on paper. Maybe it was because I was able to keep secrets in a book or maybe it was because I controlled the tone of each entry. Anyway - since then, I kept a journal religiously until I was in college. It was my very own escape into a world where there were no questions about the decisions I made and no one judged me for the choices I took. I don't recall why or what exactly stopped me from keeping a journal, but I am glad that I can now flip the switch on. It's been over 10 years since I've kept a journal so I hope the world is ready to read what I have to say.

Stay tuned.
